if thou wilt

Poor Becky was grief-stricken when she found two of her mealworms dead, and asked that I help her memorialise them. While it was indeed a sad event, I am glad that she has a heart even for God's littlest creatures.

That was very touching! And what a lot of little Sylvanians turned up to pay their respects. Never have two mealworms been so honoured.

Poor Becky is experiencing her first (?) loss to death, her pain would be equally hard on the mommy too. But perhaps this would also be a good opp to brace & equip her emotionally & spiritually for similar future inevitabilities. It is a hard topic but u're such a great & sensitive mom, i'm sure u'll find the right words {:-)

Hi B&R! I'm catching up on your blog posts that I have missed while I was away! I just think you are an amazing mother to create such a beautiful memorial to Scriggle and Shake for Becky. Your daughter has a tender and loving heart! Your film of their lives was also moving. I taught my third graders about metamorphosis, and we raised caterpillars to butterflies. The hardest parts were warning them that all the caterpillars might not make it to the butterfly stage and comforting the kiddos when some died. Children feel these events keenly, and your daughter will be able to revisit this memorial time and time again. Have a good one!

That was so beautiful. I can't tell you how much this touched me...the music...the beautiful poem that I just discovered today...the magical scene...all of it. How precious that your daughter has such a big heart. How wonderful that her compassion extends to all creatures, big and small. I've no doubt that you have played a huge roll in the amazing human being she is becoming. After all, the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree.

What a lovely little film, Janice. You're a good Mom to take the time to help Becky grieve her little worm friends. That was such a beautiful passage from the Rossetti poem. A wonderful thing that Becky has such compassion for the most humble of creatures...
